Incredible views of lush green hills, stunning nature, and colorful houses. The delightful sounds of various birds, buzzing bees, vibrant butterflies, and at night, the calls of jackals fill the air. Beautifully blooming flowers, fragrant herbs, and diverse plants create a feast for the senses. The land is dotted with fruit and nut trees, all basking in the warm weather.
I’m in Transylvania, Romania. A few months ago, I received a call from Janneke Vos (writer, journalist, storyteller, Romania expert, and teacher). Along with her husband, Ad de Groot, and their dogs and Icelandic horses, she resides in Oarba, Romania. They offered me the opportunity to enjoy and, of course, photograph this beautiful country and their herd of Icelandic horses. In mid-June, I set off on my journey to Romania.
Icelandic Horses in Transylvania, Romania
Their herd of Icelandic horses ( the main herd around 12 horses) is located in a valley opposite the house. A piece of land of more than 6 hectares. The area is filled with nut and fruit trees, flowers, plants, herbs, and grass. A pond with frogs and salamanders. A true paradise.
In addition, there were many other animals, dogs and people in Romania who inspired me, such as the shepherds with their flocks of sheep and goats.
Janneke and Ad, thank you for your hospitality and enthusiasm. It is an honor that you wanted to share your beautiful place and animals with me.
