About the project

A long-term documentary photography project on Icelandic horses, their herds, mares and foals, in the landscapes they belong to.

I work slowly, I observe, and I wait. Not to create dramatic images, but to share the Icelandic horse as I see it in its strength, its softness, and in its quiet presence in the landscape it belongs to.

With this body of work, I want to contribute to how the Icelandic horse is seen worldwide. Not as a trend or a stereotype, but as a unique and powerful breed worthy of serious artistic attention. Through carefully observed and thoughtfully composed images, I aim to create work that feels enduring and honest.

My photographs are made in real landscapes, in changing weather, among herds and individual horses at ease. The focus is not performance, but presence. Not spectacle, but character.

This project is an ongoing body of work that continues to grow over time. It is built on years of working with, riding, and living alongside Icelandic horses, and on a deep respect for the people who dedicate their lives to this breed. I hope it resonates with Icelandic horse lovers around the world, owners, breeders, trainers, riders and organisations who value thoughtful and authentic representation.

If this work resonates with you, inquiries and collaborations are welcome.

About the photographer

Iris works with Icelandic horses the way she moves through life: without hurry. She does not chase images; she allows them to unfold. She spends time in the landscape long before she lifts her camera, watching the herd and noticing the small shifts that reveal character and connection.

Her work is shaped by patience, consistency and a genuine love for the breed.

For Iris, her Icelandic horse project is more than photography. It is a long-term dedication to documenting the Icelandic horse in a way that feels respectful, powerful and true.
